Contractor Conversion Tracking Setup

The step-by-step a member contractor follows to turn on conversion tracking for their own Facebook and Google ads. Written to be handed to the contractor or walked on a call.

Applies to: members who run their own ads, paid ad management Runs in: the contractor dashboard, Meta, Google Ads Time: ~20 minutes

Screenshots on the way

The written steps below are current and complete. Screenshots get added to each step as they are captured; the words will not change.

Who needs this

Only contractors who run their own Facebook or Google ads. If you do not run your own ads, skip this; nothing here applies and nothing breaks.

What it does, in one line: it tells Facebook and Google, from your account, every time one of your ad clicks becomes a real lead, so the ad platforms can optimize toward people who actually call, and you can see true cost per lead. It runs server-side, so it keeps working even when a browser blocks the old tracking pixels.

What you do vs what TTS does: you do the parts that live in your own ad accounts: connect your accounts, get your Facebook values, paste them in, and create your Google conversion actions. TTS (your account manager) points the tracking automation at your Google conversion action and runs a test to confirm it all fires. Send your account manager the names of the Google conversion actions you create (last step below).

Part 1

Facebook (Meta) setup

  1. 1

    Connect your Facebook account

In your dashboard, open Launchpad (or Settings > Integrations) and connect the Facebook account or business that runs your ads. Approve the permissions it asks for.

  2. 2

    Get your Dataset ID

    1. Go to Meta Events Manager (business.facebook.com/events_manager).
    2. Select the dataset (Meta used to call this the "pixel") that your ads use.
    3. Open Settings for that dataset.
    4. Copy the Dataset ID. It is a long number.
  3. 3

Generate a Conversions API access token

    1. On that same dataset Settings page, scroll to the Conversions API section.
    2. Choose Set up manually if asked, then Generate access token.
    3. Copy the token. Treat it like a password: Meta shows it once, and anyone with it can send events as you.
  4. 4

    Paste both into your dashboard

    1. In your dashboard, at the bottom of the left hand menu, open Settings > Custom Values.
    2. Paste the Dataset ID into Facebook Pixel ID.
    3. Paste the access token into Facebook Conversion API Token.
    4. Save. Leave Facebook Test Event Code (dev only) blank; that is for testing only.

If you do not see Custom Values

Your TTS account manager fills these two for you. Send them the Dataset ID and the token through a secure channel, never in a plain email or a group chat.

That is the whole Facebook side. The tracking automation already reads these two values, so there is nothing else to wire.

Part 2

Google Ads setup

  1. 5

    Connect your Google Ads account

In Launchpad (or Settings > Integrations), connect the Google Ads account that runs your ads, and approve the permissions.

  2. 6

Create your conversion actions in Google Ads

These live in your Google Ads account, not in your dashboard.

    1. In Google Ads, open Tools > Conversions.
    2. Create a conversion action for a new lead. Choose the Import source (you are importing conversions from your CRM, not from a website tag). Name it exactly TTS Lead; that exact name is how your account manager finds it to wire it up. Set its category to Submit lead form or Lead.
    3. If you want to track won jobs too, create a second one named TTS Job Won, category Purchase or Qualified lead.
    4. Leave the conversion value as your default; TTS sends a flat count, and you set any dollar value here in Google if you want value-based bidding.
  3. 7

    Tell TTS you are ready

Submit the "Turn on my Google ad tracking" form in your dashboard with the name of the conversion action you created (it should be TTS Lead). That notifies your account manager to do the one part you cannot, connecting that conversion inside the tracking automation. If you are on an onboarding call, you can just tell them there instead. Once they confirm, Google is live.

How to know it is working

Your account manager runs a test the first time and confirms it with you. After that:

If you stop running ads, nothing here needs to change; it simply has nothing to report.

A note on what gets sent

Only conversion signals leave your dashboard: that a lead happened, the matching click ID, and standard hashed contact details for matching. We never send a flat dollar amount on your behalf, so any value-based bidding is yours to set in your own ad accounts.
